Hot Laps

“It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.”-- from a 1970s commercial ad campaign

Up until Saturday night, Sept. 13, 2014, Riverhead Raceway Promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty had done a more then adequate job of thwarting Mother Nature, allowing every card in 2014 to be completed.

The owners and competitors got their comeuppance from Mother Nature on a night that the Pit Area was populated by cars and drivers from the Whelen Modified Tour. This was to be the second visit of the season for the out-of-towners as they looked to once again take on a selection of top Riverhead Raceway regulars.

As before, the Cromarty’s did everything they could to get the 200-lap event for the 600-hp machines onto the starting line, but unlike other times when weather was threatening, the rain did not drift out to sea. Although a few modifieds got to take practice laps early in the day, as day turned to night, it was clear the main event would be a wash, along with the support divisions. No rain date was announced by press time.

FROM THE PITS: Fans were able to use tickets purchased on this night to get into the following week’s event on Sept. 20...

COMING UP: The final Saturday night of the season, Sept. 27, 2014. The INEX LEGENDS have been added to this program.
