•Congratulations to the Babylon Rotary and Chairperson Hapi Auer on the success of the 10th Annual Dirty Sock Run on Aug. 16. For the 10th year in a row, a group of runners accepted the Rotary’s challenge to run the 10 kilometers from the Park Avenue end of the trail, up to Belmont Lake and back. Approximately 750 male and female runners of all ages made their way through dirt and mud up to Belmont.

During the past 10 years, the race has earned more than $150,000, which has been distributed to local food pantries. Overall winner was Jonathan Lauer, age 16, from Centereach with a time of 34:12. Top female runner was Betsy Eickelberg, 23, from Leonia, NJ, finishing in 39:11. I have been volunteering for the last several years, registering runners on the day of the race. With two minutes to go, I was delighted to have Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone trot up to register! He told me he was getting ready for the First Suffolk County Marathon, to be run on Sept. 13.

•Sadly, we have to say goodbye to Flo Siemsen and her family as they leave Babylon for South Carolina. Flo has lived here for ages and has taken some of the best photos of Babylon I’ve ever seen. Happy birthday, Flo! I hope you and your family will be very happy in your new home.

•There are new places in Town. I visited Guru’s on Deer Park Avenue. This Indian boutique is fascinating. In addition clothin for women, this shop also sells specia gems, healing oils and many other items of interest. additio they also do readings. The origin shop of the same name was founded in Sayville and is very popular there. Stop in and say hello to the guru.

•I mentioned the fact that Allison Borg Bridges had moved her hair salon to Babylon. Curl Evolution is now located at 233 East Main Street (the northeast corner at East Main and Cooper Streets, kitty-corner to the Babylon Bike Shop). They will celebrate their grand opening on Aug. 25. Visit their page on Facebook for lots of tips and information. Allison’s wonderful husband, Tim, did a lot of the renovation.
